Welcome Pastor Benning!

Pastor David Benning was born in Lansing, Illinois. His parents, Russell and Cathleen Benning, both retired Lutheran educators, and his two brothers, Jonathan and Paul, moved to Springfield, Illinois, in 1988. David attended both Trinity Lutheran School and Lutheran High School. The education he received at these institutions equipped him with the tools he was given to tell others about his faith through the work of the Holy Spirit.

After Lutheran High, he attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, from 2002-2006, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in History. It was at Blackburn where he took part in several experiences that led him towards the Call of becoming a pastor. These experiences included a semester in Wales as a chaplain intern and his internship as the spiritual coordinator for Blackburn College. In the summer of 2006, he married his wife Rachel, whom he met at college, and moved to Concordia Seminary St. Louis, Missouri where he received his Master of Divinity in May 2010. On June 13, 2010, he was ordained as a Pastor of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod at his home congregation Trinity Springfield, Illinois. Pastor Benning was installed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brookfield, Wisconsin as Associate Pastor on July 11, 2010. He began serving Immanuel the Sunday of July 18, 2010, the same day that God decided to bring his daughter Olivia in to the world. Pastor Benning is looking forward to becoming an active part of the community as he proclaims the Gospel by having conversations that lead to conversations about Jesus.

Please join us as we ask God to bless his ministry at St. John’s, the members of St. Johns, and the people of New Berlin as they Proclaim Christ by Caring for ALL.
